Our Story

We are D R DOWNES that is to say we are, David and Rebecca Downes an inspiring husband and wife team.   Whose deep interest is to develop a language of shared values and goals.  We’re empathic listener’s to open up too, with a calming presence.  Our formal business backgrounds in strategic human resource and people management, has inspired and enabled individuals and groups to take ownership of emerging risks and issues. We possess a natural disposition to share our passion for developing and fostering relationships with people of all ages.

In David’s early career he served in the Royal Navy – submarines (intelligence/communications).  Upon leaving he founded a new innovative start-up IT business based in the North West, leading to the employment of 115 colleagues located in 6 locations, before its eventual sale in the late 90’s.

We have both have worked commercially with start-up companies, non-profit, as well as global brands’ supporting organisations and their employees undergoing transitional change.  As a result, we have a keen understanding of the critical importance of context. Throughout our life experiences, we have gained insight and strong awareness of human psychological capability in demanding circumstances.

Life happens and it’s a fact 32% of us will experience a diagnosable mental health issue during the course of our lives. So why did we feel it so important to take 6 years of our lives to retrain in psychotherapy & supervision at College and University, whilst practicing in two North West based NHS Health Boards? Because people problems and problem solving in general, has always been front and centre of our everyday adult life and we care.

Our Standards

Our passion and determination ensures that we remain at the leading edge of our profession whilst supporting adults, couples, children and adolescents.  As experienced occupational psychotherapists we have been professionally trained, and today actively work in line with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), British Associate for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP), EMDR Association UK and Ireland, and Information Commissioners Office framework for good practice, and receive regular clinical supervision to ensure the highest quality of service is maintained.

I’ve never experienced therapist like David, with him I had more of a feeling that I was in control of my own recovery. It felt far more positive and as if I was actually achieving something.
