David & Rebecca Downes

Why we love what we do

We create and inspire positive change not only in our own lives but in the lives of others. This in itself is extremely rewarding to us. We seek meaningful work; as we want to make a genuine difference.

Everyone has problems that they need to learn to overcome in their everyday lives, and therapy provides a valuable assistance to those in emotional need. When stress occurs in life, people often elect to speak to a counsellor / therapist to give them direction, support and guidance. In doing what we do best we offer hope in times of adversity, meaning and give real tools, to help real people in a real world.

Why does CPD matter?

Continuing professional development (CPD) is important because it ensures, we continue to be competent in our profession. It is an ongoing process and should not be underestimated – it is a career-long obligation for us as practicing professionals.  Ultimately it safeguards our clients, profession and our professional career’s.

Since our initial formal Integrative Counselling Psychotherapy training.  We continued to develop our skills in Cognitive Behvioural Therapy at University.  As well as completing a one year course in Clinical Supervision.  In addition to being trained by the President and ex-President of the EMDR Association of UK & Ireland in EMDR Therapy. With further accredited training with EMDR Europe in Children & Adolescents and specific training in; Trauma, Dissociation, EGO State, and Feeling State Addiction Protcols.

Our Approach

Within the Biopsychosocial Model, together our work is focused not only upon what’s psychologically discussed when in any given session, but also upon what is biologically and socially happening for you. As well as your family outside of the consulting room, which may require us to direct you to another professional, howsoever.

In our experience, it’s not enough to simply address all issues with a one dimensional psychotherapeutic intervention. Especially when there is so much more happening in a person’s life, or that of a corporate organisation. As Accredited BACP Psychotherapist’s, we are able to work in collaboration with a team of multidisciplinary mental healthcare, medical and legal professionals. Brought together to speedily fulfill individual and organisational needs working firmly around the Biopsychosocial model.

We provide psychotherapeutic interventions via the use of Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBT) & EMDR but not exclusively. Coming from an integrative trained backgrounds, we may use an eclectic blend of different styles of approaches with what we believe or feel’s our experience tells us will work best. Either in general or suiting the often immediate needs of our clients whilst working within our own preferences and capabilities as practitioners.

After being disappointed with a previous therapist, I was referred to Rebecca; I cannot praise her enough, her kindness, understanding and professionalism, as well as being extremely empathetic. She was able to get to the heart of my problem really quickly, made me realise what I needed to do to put myself in a better place. I am now much more secure and in a happy place. I would like to thank her for her help.
